Driving across Dartmoor this morning at 10.30am between Two Bridges and Postbridge, there was a female Merlin sat on a roadside fence post , about 300 yards west of Powder Mills. After watching it for several minutes, it flew across the road and dropped into the grass. At the exact same time, a male Hen Harrier flew over the car to presumably investigate the Merlin and then after quartering the grassland for 5 minutes crossed back over the road at Powder Mills. Further along the road near Postbridge, I stopped to check a small flock of Chaffinch and it contained 8-10 Brambling, including some nice males.
