Exe Estuary Turf and canal

The snow bunting still on sea wall near new cycle bridge mid-afternoon. In the field north of the Turf I saw the black brant amongst c500 brent geese. On the canal a redhead goosander but it was very mobile and eventually flew north towards the motorway. Lots of avocets on the river and one kingfisher.

The Exminster marshes still have lots of duck and waders. I did not linger to count as the showers were heavy and cold. I did notice about 500 golden plover and c300 black-tailed godwit. Amongst the ducks were a few pintail, tufted and shelduck.

In the fading light 2 male bullfinches shone as they and two females went to roost in bushes within the reed bed north of Station Road railway bridge.
