Mansands and Brixham Breakwater

Yesterday I was in Brixham when Mike reported that the Velvet Scoter were off Goodrington. I decided to head to the end of the breakwater to see if I could see the birds across the bay. Only 2 Purple Sandpiper were seen and a single Kittiwake feeding within the harbour. Whilst scanning for the Scoter I found a Red-necked Grebe diving constantly and heading out of the bay. A Great Northern Diver also flew out of the bay. I eventually picked up the 2 Velvet Scoter as they too dived constantly, moving towards Broadsands.

This evening I took a walk with the dog to Mansands. 8+Gadwall, 2 Tufted Duck and a Little Grebe were on the water along with Moorhen and Coot but the best bird was a calling Green Woodpecker.
