Berry Head

Seawatch 07:30-15:30.  With a SSE building to F10+, today was perhaps too windy. ML checked Froward Point Coastwatch's live readout midday  when registering SSE windspeed 60-68mph, gusting 80mph, while the highest gust actually recorded at Berry Head was 93mph!!  After peaking wind gradually veered SSW 6, but failed to deliver the mass seabird exodus from Lyme Bay the few intrepid seawatchers who sat it out had hoped for! Totals: 11 Pomarine Skuas, Great Skua, Arctic Skua (2s), Manx Shearwater, Balearic Shearwater, 3 Great Northern Divers (one east, two on the sea), Black-throated Diver, 3 Red-breasted Mergansers, Curlew, 243 Kittiwakes, light passage of Gannets and auks and around 15 lingering Fulmars. Also 2-3 Harbour Porpoise.

A quick tally up of Berry Head's Pomarine Skuas since September shows around 358 recorded, almost certainly making this a record autumn/winter and an unprecedented November and its not over yet!
