Start Point

Some overnight rain. Fresh-strong WSW wind, weather brightening soon after dawn.

Vis mig 06:40-09:30 from near car park. All birds flying somewhere between south to southwest.

1 Golden Plover, 25100 Woodpigeon, 24 Skylark, 40 Meadow Pipit, 20 alba Wagtails, 2 House Martin, 8 Redwing, 2 House Sparrow, 10 Brambling, 140 Linnet, 940 Chaffinch, 29 Greenfinch, 15 Siskin, 2 Lesser Redpoll, 970 Goldfinch, 32 Bullfinch and 8 Reed Buntings.Also 1 Painted Lady.

Woodpigeons all heading south west. By choice they normally cut across south west from Torcross towards Lannacombe / Prawle. The strong WSW wind probably made this difficult forcing them onto Start Point then the long way around. Stock Doves as usual on these days easy to ignore . Less than 1% of the pigeons appeared to be stock doves but half a percent would have still meant a healthy count of 125 +.For anyone interested i've uploaded a short clip to you tube ( looking north towards Hallsands ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxDCNGtx9LM
