Yarty Valley

Finally managed a short early morning walk near Stockland yesterday a.m.

Relieved to see at least 2 Kingfishers, Dipper, Treecreeper, the usual favourites still hanging on. Little Egret, Heron, a few Chiffs. 5 undetermined geese flew upstream low behind the trees.

Surprised to see 2 active Sand Martin nests in the river bank, never seen them in previous years. Maybe last years flood erosion has offered them a new nesting site.

An apparent lone juvenile swallow on the wires all the time I was there, left behind to fend for itself? Plenty of house martins but didnt notice any adult Swallows, I expect they were there somewhere, just late getting up!!.
