Around the Axe

Am probably the only coastal Devon birder who's been out today and seen less than ten terns over the sea! (2 Common and 5 Sandwich). Did have a flock of 14 'commics' fly south down the Estuary mid afternoon but picked them up too late. Only species passing here in any number today were Gannets.

Lots of gulls about the place, with a cracking first-winter Yellow-legged Gull the best along with good numbers of the Black-backed varieties.

Amongst the waders in the valley were 2 Ruff, 1 Knot, 3 Greenshank, 19 Dunlin and 11 Ringed Plover.
