Exe estuary near Turf

Wader numbers beginning to improve, c20 black-tailed godwits, 21 oystercatcher, 12 curlew and 2 common sandpiper on the shore south of Turf until the rising tide drove them off.

The main excitement was provided by first a hobby (adult) flying low, ahead of a rain squall, that passed very close and was then mobbed by a peregrine. Shortly after another hobby, probably a juvenile, flew slowly into the wind carrying prey - a swift. It also was mobbed by the peregrine, at which point it released the swift. The swift (the only one I saw all morning) fluttered weakly towards the ground and flew onto the sea wall.

There were 2 dunlin on the edge of the lagoon on the Exminster marshes.
