On a walk from Wembury beach to Wembury Point and back the highlights today were 8 ringed plover roosting on the beach at high tide, 4 little egrets together flying east, distant views of 3 small shearwater sp. flying west, 3 juvenile wheatears in the fields above the riding stables and a green woodpecker heard yaffling.

There were plenty of whitethroats flitting about at the Point with a male blackcap and a few chiffchaffs also seen. Stonechats were very noticeable including a pair with 3 young feeding from the top of wheat stalks in the wheat field and another young bird was seen unsuccessfully chasing after a flyby Jersey tiger moth.

Also seen were an oak bush cricket and a knot grass caterpillar to round off a very pleasent walk.
