Taw Estuary

Morning walk around Fremington and Home Farm Marsh; late afternoon along the River Caen/Sherpa Marsh. About 100 Redshanks along Fremington Pill and around the mouth of the Pill, an estimated 2,000–3,000 Golden Plovers roosting on the sand flats off Chivenor, 13 Pintails, 2 Spoonbills, a Merlin, 2 or 3 Marsh Harriers (all females/imms), a late Whinchat (near Salt Pill Duck Pond), a Common Sandpiper (River Caen at Velator - where also Dipper, Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail and 5 Little Grebes) and – most surprisingly of all – two Swallows over Sherpa Marsh at dusk as we watched about 1,000 Starlings murmurating over Wrafton.
