Soar and Slapton Ley

Started at 0725 in superb conditions. Wood Pigeon passage chiefly 0745 - 0830 (going south-east) and vitually over by 0915. I counted c28,500 birds including some flocks of c3,000. I could well have missed some of the more inland flocks, as I headed out over the Warren and Bolt Head. So not too different to Mike's and Bob's sightings (assuming they are talking about Wood Pigeons!). In one of the closer flocks I counted 4 Stock Doves but most flocks too distant to pick out any doves, so who knows how many slipped through.

Very little other "vis mig" (this is my worst recent autumn for this at Soar - very little moving even on same days / times as other nearby sites have witnessed movements). However - single Fieldfare, Siskin and Redpoll (presumed Lesser) and 12 Lapwings over. Also - Chiffchaff 1, Goldcrest 4, Snipe 2 and a Cetti's Warbler at the "pond". (The latter was there on Sunday but we failed to clinch it).

At Slapton later - in the distance over the sea - Bonxie and Skua sp (Arctic or Pom). On the Ley good numbers of ducks including - c70 Gadwalls, c170 Tufted Ducks, c40 Pochards, and c100 Wigeons. Also - Firecrest 2 (bridge and Ireland Bay), Chiffchaff 1, and Merlin 1.
