Start Point

James and I birded the lane by the farm from 09.00 to 10.00 then had a seawatch from the point from 10.30 to 11.30 then I checked the farm again from 12.15 to 13.00. A fresh ENE felt "full of eastern promise' and fog masking the horizon and mast tops cleared towards the end but only a modest list of migrants was forthcoming: Gannet (c.30 W but c.20 E.), Kittiwake (2 ad.s and 2 juv.s E.), Hobby (1 juv. harried swallows over the farm briefly heading S. with them), Barn Swallow (maybe 100 S. throughout with 3-4 parties of c.10 birds heading out low over the waves), Wheatear (4 juv.s by the light), Redwing (2 in sycamores by the farm seemed early), Blackcap (1-2 calling by the farm), Chiffchaff (10-15 by the farm (incl. a very grey bird with greenish remiges looking like tristis but presumed abietinus as it called "normally") had all cleared out by midday), Spotted Flycatcher (1 ad. and 1 slightly spotty 1st w. by the farm early on, poss. the same 1st w. by the light at 11.45, none at the farm later)
