R.Taw. Pottington to Ashford.

10:50 - 12:35

21 Bar-tailed Godwits; 5 Black-tailed Godwits; 6 Little Egrets; 8 Greenshank; 1 Great crested Grebe (juv) and 1 Shoveler on foreshore.

Penhill Marsh viewed from Pottington side :- 9 Grey Herons; 4 Little Egrets and 9 Shoveler mid-river. 2 Peregrines on a sandbar in mid-river. 1 was protecting a kill it had made from the attentions of 3 pestering Crows. The 2nd Peregrine was on the same sandbar and allowing the incoming tide to come up to it`s belly before it moved to dry sand. First time I have ever witnessed a wading Peregrine.

At 11:50 all the Gulls and waders on the river suddenly took to the skies and I caught a fleeting glimpse of what appeared to be a Marsh Harrier flying overhead and upstream between the Tarka Trail and the foreshore. Before I could get a decent bead on it, it had flown inland towards Bradiford Reserve.

3 Pintail flying upstream just off Ashford Sewage Works.
