At sea off South Devon

Yesterday at sea from a fishing boat (>5nm) off South Devon, seabirds were a little disappointing given the sightings off Ireland and Cornwall the previous day! Never-the-less most expected species were on show, which included: 2 Balearic Shearwaters (one being mugged by a GBB Gull see pic), numerous Manx Shearwaters, 3 European Storm-petrels, 6+ juv Yellow-legged Gulls in with numerous Herring and Lesser Black-backed Gulls and three Great Skua.

If anyone is interested in evenning pelagic trips off S Devon, Nigel Smallbones has trips planned for 10th, 17th and 31st August, leaving from Brixham quay at 16:30 (with chum for attracting seabirds), contact him on 07866 202576. Prices £18 per head, spaces limited to 12 people. Note these trips go beyond 5nm (see http://forum.devonbirds.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9).
