Exe Estuary/Exminster

Highlights of this morning's WeBS count were the 2 Black-necked Grebes and 330 Brent Geese between Cockwood and Starcross, 128 Snipe in the Dawlish Warren saltmarsh and an adult Mediterranean Gull. A brief look off Dawlish Warren produced 2 Great Northern and 2 Red-throated Divers. Two pairs of Egyptian Geese were honking and flying around the oaks at Powderham. The Glossy Ibis was disturbed by one of the Marsh Harriers at Exminster Marshes and I failed to see any of the grey geese, but spent some quality time with a Grey Wagtail in the gateway where the Ibis had been feeding. Images and video show that it was eating lots of small rat-tailed maggots (hoverfly larvae).
