Sightings from Prawle Point today

Marathon seawatch (for me) from 7am to 4.30pm (joined by Dave Norman for 2 hours from 10.30am) in NE variable wind (ie some southerly at times) produced the hoped for skuas albeit low numbers : 2 Poms,5 Arctic and 3 unidentified skuas. But large movement of terns : minimum 21 Arctic, 7 Common and 277 Commic plus 2 Sandwich Terns. Further variety by way of 2 GN Divers west and 2 Black Throated east plus probable B TH on sea. 9 Whimbrel west and 1 east. Also 7 Brent Geese west (!) plus another highlight : a ringtail Hen Harrier east over the sea. 107 Common Scoters east and a stream of auks mainly west (with 600 plus in the first hour). Steady trickle of swallows in off the sea throughout the watch. Only a few Manxies -30 split east and west. Not a bad day's birding !
