Exe Estuary 4 November

Lovely sunshine for the first Stuart Line birdwatching cruise of the winter. Large numbers of Brent Geese well spread from Lympstone to Dawlish Warren and similarly high numbers of Black-tailed Godwits (well over 1000) between Powderham and Topsham. The Avocet flock was over 200 and c250 Golden Plover were roosting opposite the Goat Walk. The highlight for me was c25 Great Crested Grebes, including groups of up to 14 together. What a shame we no longer have 'Herbert' the Slavonian Grebe. 2 Black Swans were in the main channel near Turf and we had several sightings of Grey Seals, including one near Topsham.
