I'll take back what I said in my last post. This afternoon saw more than fifty swifts pass and feed over my house in Old Torrington Road, Barnstaple. One group had twelve birds and another of eight. Flying amongst them at times were swallows. To be fair, flying ants contributed to the airborne food supply. Also spotted was a sparrowhawk which was ignored by the swifts and a very high flying raptor which I think was probably a red kite. Never have your bins to hand when you need them! That was more swifts than I have seen in total for the last couple of years.
