late swifts

after almost giving up on our swifts which normally nest under our eaves on the 5th or 6th may, they finally arrived yesterday on the 20th displacing the sparrows that had already started to rear young.i heard a lot of noise from the nest and then the sparrow chicks fell silent so i am assuming the swifts killed them.has anyone else seen this?we are just outside okehampton
