Velator area

Ringing in the reserve this morning was hardly classic, but one of the first birds out of the net was an adult male Kingfisher. I've seen one a few times recently, both in the reserve and along the nearby river. A few days ago the pair of Canada Geese hatched 4 goslings, but today sadly only one left. I suspect Otter, but the gander did seem to be trying to get the whole family out of the reserve, and I even saw him outside for a while this morning calling to her and the gosling. The other young could just have got stuck in the reed-bed. The female Roe Deer was outside the reserve this morning. Also ringed one each of Reed and Sedge Warbler, Blackcap and juvenile Great Tit and Dunnock.
