South Efford Marsh Monday 26 April

Between 8 and 10 pairs of Shelducks have taken up territories on the marsh and the Tidalway and were showing a fair bit of aggression.  Photos of the alpha male below.

Last year, in one of a number of chases over the sea that I videoed, the aggressor plucked a tail feather from the younger male.  One of the females had lost her tail altogether and used her webbed feet as elevator for pitch and speed control.
