Avon Dam

As a change from all those summer migrants (and moths!) here's a bunch of roosting Goosanders at the Avon Dam this morning, before they flew out at 0546. There were eight in total, including three ad males, and looks like at least two imm males (e.g. far right bird) among the brown-heads. Not an unprecedented number for April, but hard to interpret. One possibility - pure speculation - is that all the brown-heads are imms and that the wives of the ad males are on eggs somewhere downriver. The four Canadas were without the Gt White-fronted Goose that popped up last week, but one of the Mallards was accompanied by 14 newly-hatched ducklings.
