Velator reserve

Not a promising start, but the misty mizzle cleared and I opened the nets about 10. In yesterday's howling gale, there were good numbers of Swallows and Sand Martins catching insects over the pond, They returned today but I couldn't entice any into the nets. Ringed one Chiffchaff, 1 Goldfinch, 8 Blackcaps, 1 Sedge Warbler (very fat). 9 Willow Warblers, a House Sparrow, and, after hearing one yesterday I saw it today and then caught the first juvenile Blackbird of the year, A pair of Linnets again put in an appearance.

As it warmed up later on, a few Orange-tips, a Speckled Wood and a Comma appeared.
