Upper Erme Valley 26 February

At noon and at 1400ft above the upper Erme Valley, we watched a flock of returning winter migrants (c100 Golden Plover) migrate north at low level in the teeth of a stiff wind from the ENE.

Shortly after, a group of summer migrants (5 Lesser Back-backed Gulls)  followed up the valley.  Surprisingly they adopted a thermal technique not well suited to the conditions.  The first LBGs had arrived back at the breeding site in Clifton last week with further birds by the 27th.
