South Brent ~ Hawfinch

I thought the day had started well around the garden feeders when one of two female Brambling showed up around the feeders, along with Bullfinch, Song Thrush, Long Tailed Tit (collecting nesting material) Canadian Geese and Heron overhead a Mallard dropping onto the field pond, two Green Woodpeckers calling and a GSWP drumming.

Resident pair of Buzzard displaying, drawing attention from a Raven and a third Buzzard.

And then just after mid day a female Hawfinch on the ground under the feeders, a garden first for me and a village rarity to say the least, it has now been around the feeders for just over an hour so far....... a real treat.

And earlier in the morning a trip to the vets in Totnes to collect an injured female Barn owl that had been found on the road 200 yards outside of Broadhempston on the road from Red Post, the bird has two fractures to the ulna of its right wing but will hopefully make a full recovery.
