Skern - Friday morning
A surprisingly fruitful mid-tide count along the Skern at mid-tide today: all the usual waders (including a good count of 279 Oystercatcher)and passerines, with a few Swallows, House Martins and several parties of alba wagtails and Mipits moving SW throughout my count period. Amongst the waders feeding were ca.60 Dunlin, 14 Knot, 10 Turnstone, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 3 Little Stint and 6 Snipe on the Salicornia bed. The highlight of the count was a very nice juvenile Little Ringed Plover keeping very much to itself on the fringe of the feeding birds. Usual 60+ Curlew, with 3 Bar-tailed Godwit in the corner by the stream. A single Wheatear was moving along the bank-edge. The dunes and the inland area were particularly busy today with dog-walkers, joggers and golfers!
