No sign of the hoopoe at Maer Farm this morning but compensation this afternoon with distant views of the juvenile white winged black tern with Sandwich terns and common terns roosting on the sand banks in the Exe estuary as viewed from Exmouth marina. Despite its smaller size it was quite feisty and regularly jostled with any Sandwich tern that came too close to it before it flew upriver on the incoming tide.
