(Not) Photographing Schedule 1 Species

I spent a few hours birding around a well-known East Devon common yesterday (Sunday 9th). Shortly after arriving, I came across a couple of birders with telephoto lenses on tripods in what was clearly prime DW breeding habitat. The obvious conclusion to draw is that they were trying to photograph that particular species.

At the risk of sounding repetitive - and not really wanting to play the part of wildlife enforcer -  DW is a Schedule 1 species, one which it is an offence to 'intentionally or recklessly disturb' without a licence. Apologies, I'm sure most of you already know this - photographers and non-photographers alike.

So, a plea to the minority of photographers: please refresh your knowledge regarding UK bird protection legislation prior to your next outing. Sermon over :-)
