Late news...

Travelling between  Barnstaple and Boode  yesterday afternoon (05/02) I was amazed to see a very large flock of plovers feeding on the freshly ploughed field just past the Garden Centre. On stopping, I counted between 3,300 - 3,500 Lapwings and approximately 800 Golden Plover. This was easily the largest flock of Lapwings I've seen in the UK since before the very severe winter of 1962/63. For me, this was much more exciting to see them than the odd rarity now and again. A very heartening sight (and a wonderful sound, too)!
