WeBS on the Grand Western Canal

A WeBS survey on the Grand Western Canal today revealed that, despite the breach on the canal, numbers on the canal are on a par to the previous month. In addition to the normal waterbirds expected were :- 128 Lapwing, 1 Snipe, 1 Dipper, 4 Little Grebe, 1 Water Rail and 2 Kingfisher.

Among the other highlights were: a mixed flock of over 600 gulls, mainly Herring and Black-headed, feeding in one small field adjacent to the canal; a flock of 600+ Woodpigeon feeding in a stubble field; and a further flock of 50+ Woodpigeon which included an almost complete albino feeding in a field of kale.
