Soussons Wood

On a very sunny and mild morning walk around Soussons farm we spotted 2 crossbills and heard more calling, a large flock, maybe 20 or so of redwing and fieldfare. Also were two great spotted woodpeckers. On the way back to Postbridge we stopped by the road to watch another large flock of redwing and fieldfare feeding on an area of hawthorn berries. Something spooked them and they took to the air showing us there were about 60 birds in the flock. We had an upclose view of one fieldfare when a male blackbird gave chase to it. Also in and around the flock was a song thrush and a male bullfinch. No sign of the great grey shrike though. A very enjoyable day.
