South Brent 19th ~ 20th Yarner and Trendlebere

Tuesday 19th April ~ South Brent ~ River Avon at the Island ~ Green Woodpecker two possibly a third, Robin, Wren 2, Blackbird 7+,Blue Tit 5+, Great Tit, Chiffchaff, Jackdaw, Jay 2, Herring Gull, Carrion Crow, Canadian Geese could be heard calling from towards Brent Mill, Goldcrest, Long Tailed Tit 2, Grey Wagtail, Magpie, Rook 2, Goldfinch 4 one of which was flying carrying a trailing length of fine grass, Song Thrush 4, one with nesting material, two gathering worms and one singing in the church yard.

Dockwell ~ Willow Warbler pair singing and displaying, Wren 2, Chaffinch several chasing pairs, Great Tit, Carrion Crow, Blackcap pair and a single male, Pheasant, Heron, Chiffchaff, Goldfinch, Buzzard.

Between Dockwell and Bloody Pool Cross several singing Skylarks.

Ladies Wood ~ Blue Tit in a nest box (popped its head out as we passed) Great Tit, Blackcap, Green Woodpecker 2/3 calling almost constantly during visit, Treecreeper pair and a single bird, Chiffchaff. One Orange Tipped Butterfly.

Back home at GSWP, Jay, male and female Reed Bunting on the feeders, Song Thrush, Starling gathering nesting material, Rook, Siskin and male Bullfinch visiting the feeders.

Wednesday 20th April ~ Yarner and Trendlebere ~ top of Yarner Wood as approached from Trendlebere ~ Stonechat and Dunnock on the gorse tops, Tree Pipit displaying and singing.

In the top edge of the wood a pair of Redstart, male Pied Flycatcher, Long tailed Tits, Green Woodpecker and Chiffchaff calling. On leaving a small species of very blue butterfly.

A38 Ashburton Peregrine seen passing over the dual carriageway.
