Exminster marshes

At 6.00 pm the short-eared owl was quartering the fields north of Topsham Lock and then flew south to hunt around the lagoon. Several chiffchaff and willow warbler singing. A reed warbler near the canal side car park gave a few short burst of song. There were 5 brent geese (all dark bellied), 2 wigeon and c24 teal on the pools. The most unusual sighting was a great tit carrying nest material into the top of one of the tall street lights on the by-pass - the pole must be nearly 30 feet high.
