Lundy Chough

As blog watchers may have read elsewhere, a Chough has been seen on Lundy on several occasions since first being photographed at Shutter Point (the extreme SW corner of the island) on 30 Oct. The most recent report was by James Leonard on 16 Nov. The bird is unringed and it has been suggested that this individual, as well as other recent unringed singletons in Scilly and Cornwall, could have originated in Ireland, though a wandering bird from the Welsh population also seems highly likely. Choughs bred on Lundy until the second half of the 19th century and it would be nice to think that this might be the vanguard of a future recolonisation...
