Powderham Church - Turf Locks, Exminster Marshes

13 members of DB attended the morning walk organised by East Devon Branch.  The churchyard produced several Goldcrest and a Nuthatch with Grey Heron in adjoining fields.  From the cyle bridge 34 Redshank and 70 Avocet where present on the estuary feeding on a rising tide and a small flock of Dunlin passed up river.  (A solitary Dunlin was found feeding on a field close to the footpath and appeared to have a damaged leg).  A couple of Mergansers and a Goldeneye were scopped at a distance towards Topsham. 2 Grey Wagtail, Meadow Pipit, Rock Pipit, Stonechat, Linnet and others were seen along the footpath with Kingfisher on the estuary side of the Double Locks (which opened at weekend). 50+ species were listed during the morning and highlights were good views of 6 Snipe in the waterlogged fields and the large flocks of Brent Geese (c1000),  Golden Plover (c300), Curlew and Lapwing that were ever present on this part of the marshes to the west of Turf.  Thanks to Geoff Green for leading us.

Reminder- East Devon Branch are holding their AGM next Tuesday at The Blue Ball Inn Sidford.  Guest speaker Cath Jeffs from RSPB.  Details in Programme.
