Places to GoTawny Wood

Tawny Wood is a very small wood (2 ha) owned and managed by Devon Birds in a remote area approximately ten kilometres from Honiton in East Devon. It is open decidous woodland.

It was left to the Society in 1988 by the late Pam Williamson who gave specific instructions to Devon Birds so far as the Reserve was concerned.  Her wish was to ensure that Tawny Wood remained "a little bit of Devon for wildlife".  That the area be designated entirely for the use of birds and their preservation.  No general access by the public and access by members of the Society to be limited in numbers, and to be governed by the need only to manage the woodland and its bird amenities."

A security code is required to enter the reserve.  The Reserve is currently maintained by Ray Hamilton.
