Plym Estuary & Saltram

In lovely, mild weather: 5 Goosanders (2 drakes), 41 Wigeon, Little Grebe, adult Mediterranean Gull, 61 Common Gulls, 18 Turnstones, 2 Snipe, Grey Plover, 491 Dunlins, 7 Greenshanks, Green & Great Spotted Woodpeckers & a Red Admiral.

Wrafton Pond

This afternoon I stopped off at Wrafton Pond where there were two Gadwall (1m+1f), six Snipe, one Little Grebe,  a couple of Moorhen and a Marsh Harrier. Out on the Scrape were a small number of Black tailed Godwit and Teal, one Little Egret, a Snipe and a Sparrowhawk flyby.

Avocets and Shelduck on low tide mudflats near to Lopwell. Common Sandpiper, Redshank, Canada Geese and Ravens at Dam with a lovely Roebuck in the woods.

Two Cattle Egret over Winstone Lane, above Kitley Fish Pond, at 13:15. Flew up from the Yealm Est and then west.

Also around the Yealm Est (low tide): 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Wigeon, 2 Tufted Ducks, 6 Little Grebe, c40 Teal, 13 Curlew, c20 Redshank, Greenshank, 2 Stock Dove.

Plym Estuary & Saltram

An excellent count of c535 Dunlins this morning; also, Grey Plover, 2+ Common sandpipers, 8 Greenshanks, 2 Snipe, Turnstone, 11 Goosanders (4 drakes), 41 Wigeon, Little Grebe, Mediterranean Gull (3rd cy), Kingfisher (male), Great Spotted & Green Woodpeckers, Peregrine (male), 3 Bullfinches (females), Chiffchaff & 10 Roe Deer.

In addition, on Blaxton Meadow: adult Black-headed Gull (TR6M yellow) ringed Walendow. Poland on 7/7/19 & seen around Plym Estuary Feb & March 2021; also seen elsewhere in Plymouth 13/9/20 and again around Plym Estuary Aug 2021 & Feb & March 2022.

Bowling Green Marsh

Highlights from an hour’s scan this morning were a Spotted Redshank, 12+ Snipe, 400+ Avocets, 4 Pochards, 6 Greylags, 80+ Pintails and a Common Gull. Lowlight was a sick Pintail, I presume dying from the ‘flu.
