Wembury Point

Nine Manx Shearwaters and 360 Kittiwakes flew west off Wembury Point between 9.20 and 10.20 this morning. Around the point itself there were 24 Ringed Plovers, a Whimbrel, 12 Turnstones, 3 Sanderlings, 6 Dunlin, four Common Sandpipers, a Redshank, 28 Mediterranean Gulls, a Sandwich Tern, three Kestrels and two Yellow Wagtails.

Plym Estuary & Saltram

An Osprey flew up the estuary at 11.50 and lost to view circling over Efford Marsh. Otherwise, Teal, Whimbrel, 9 Greenshanks, Common Sandpiper, 19 Mandarin ducks, Swift, Kingfisher, Sparrowhawk, Grey Wagtail, 2 Stonechats, 2 Bullfinches, Siskin & Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Wembury

The Wembury/Wembury Point area was quite productive this morning. Sightings included 28 Ringed Plover, a Whimbrel, 7 Turnstone, 5 Dunlin, a Yellow-legged Gull (1CY), a Willow Warbler, 8 Whitethroats, a Whinchat, 8 Wheatears and a Yellow Wagtail.

Taw Bridge, Barnstaple

A walk across the bridge this morning. On the Anchor Wood side there was a group of 7 little egrets and another lone one. Lots of black headed gulls and oystercatchers and a solitary GBB gull.

East Soar 0610 – 1025

Quiet first thing before the sun brought out 2 Redstart (male & female), Pied Flycatcher, Whinchat, Tree Pipit, Yellow Wagtail, Wheatear, 54 Swallow, 32 Whitethroat, 18 Willow Warbler, Sedge Warbler, 4 Long-tailed Tit, 27 Stonechat & 160 Carrion Crow.

Non-avian:  Migrant Hawker & 40 Autumn Lady’s Tresses.

Later at Harleston by Slapton – Spotted Flycatcher plus Jersey Tiger, Humming-bird Hawk-Moth, Silver-Washed Fritillary.

Old Torrington Road Barnstaple

Late yesterday afternoon a flock of 75+ rooks appeared and flew over my garden flying east to west. Still a few swifts and swallows and martins all mainly mid to late afternoon.
