This morning on the Down: Chaffinches, Goldfinches, Linnets, Willow warblers at least 12 Mistle thrush and a Green Woodpecker. 3 Ringed Plover and Canada Geese on the TWL. Down along the Bridle path 2 Spotted Flycatchers.
Soar
Additions to Rob’s post today: Wryneck (briefly, in scrub adjoining the wood between mid- and east Soar), Swift, 40 Wheatears, 3 Whinchats, 6 Siskins, Sedge Warbler, 22 Whitethroats, 22 Chiffchaffs, 9 Blackcaps, 11 Tree Pipits, 2 Grey Wagtails, Sparrowhawk, Coal Tit, 4 Bullfinches, 2 Roe Deer & a Comma.

Avon Dam
Thirteen red head Goosanders roosting at the Avon Dam this morning was the most there since March. Leg colour and facial pattern suggests a mix of juveniles and adult females.

Wembury
Migrants in the Wembury/Wembury Point area this morning included 5+ Ringed Plover, a Whimbrel, 5 Bar-tailed Godwits, 24+ Turnstone, 24 Dunlin, a Common Sandpiper, a Redshank, 4 Mediterranean Gulls, a Grasshopper Warbler, 2 Blackcaps, 4 Whitethroats, two Spotted Flycatchers and 2 Wheatears.

Horsey & Braunton Marshes
This morning around high tide on Horsey 3 Great White Egrets.
Fortunately, Nigel who lives in Barnstaple turned up on his bicycle having cycled past the Linhay on the Inner Marsh Road & identified 9 Cattle Egrets amongst a herd of cows, so on my way home I took some photographs.The nearest one with the black bill is a juvenile.
East to Middle Soar
Significant hirundine easterly migration from 0800 to 0945 involving 600 Swallow, 15 Sand Martin & 390 House Martin with a further 170 on the roof of Middle Soar House. Also: 3 Yellow Wagtail, White Wagtail, 2 Tree Pipit, 21 Wheatear, 2 Whinchat, Grasshopper Warbler reeling at Starehole Ponds, 5 Whitethroat, 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Spotted Flycatcher & 150 Linnet.
Tawny Owl on Bovey Heath
No Nightjars, but a Tawny Owl calling from 20.15 onwards
Sidmouth Fire Beacon & East Hill
On and over the Fire Beacon this morning were 4+ Spotted Flycatchers, 6+ Willow Warblers and a flyover Tree Pipit, all migrants I think, plus the expected heathland residents. In the woods along East Hill were Crossbill, Siskin, Treecreeper and Marsh Tit (3/4 territories).

Saltram Heron Extravaganza
An exceptional gathering of herons on the Plym Estuary with three Great White Egrets, at least ten Little Egrets and eight Grey Herons feeding on a mass of little fishes before the Black-headed Gulls muscled in. Could only get a few in the photo. Thanks to Pete Aley for the tip-off.

Lower Otter Restoration Project
At noon a mixed flock of about 500 Swallows, House and Sand Martins at the White Bridge perched on electric wires, catching insects and drinking from river. Also two Clouded Yellow butterflies.

Plym Estuary & Saltram
Three Great White Egrets on Blaxton Meadow this morning, then on the narrow river nearby. Also, 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 2+ Common Sandpipers, 9 Greenshanks, Dunlin, 13 Oystercatchers & 12 Cormorants.
Land off Stoney Lane, Landkey.
Lots of swallows and a few martins over the field today busy feeding and the heading off south over Codden Hill. Ravens calling overhead and a buzzard circling above. Many more swallows as I got back to Landkey.
