Spoonbill

I’m pretty sure I spotted a Spoonbill in the Exe Estuary as my train just passed through Starcross at about 3.05pm on 8th May. It was feeding at low tide. It looked up a bit & I saw it’s ‘spooned beak’. It was on its own.

A short morning visit, with the highlight being 2 male Garganey on pools near S bend, newly in.

Only walked along second half of Station Road, so numbers limited. Female Teal was first for a few weeks. 10+ Shelduck. Singing Cetti’s, Sedge and 6+ Reed Warbler, long with two Reed Bunting.

Also a few Curlew, 1 Whimbrel and 1 Greenshank. 10+ Sand Martin, 5+ Swift the best of the rest.

Later cycled to Double Locks, and a Pair of Mute Swans with 9 cygnets by pub, which entered the water for the first time while there.
