Northam Burrows Merlin

The highlight, though not for the unfortunate prey, of today’s visit to The Skern & Northam Burrows were hearing Skylarks for the first time this year and having just spotted one, saw it snatched by a Merlin! It appeared to reach under its chest, in flight, and despatch the unfortunate capture, before flying off accross the estuary towards Crow Beach. The Golden Plover, probably >2000, were at the high tide roost glowing in the sunshine & occasionally taking to the air en masse to murmurate for our enjoyment. Wonderful!
