Velator reserve

I was thinking as I walked around this morning that it had been quite while since I had seen a Marsh Harrier. Of course as soon as I scanned South to look at the reed-bed at Sherpa, a dark female Marsh Harrier started quartering the reeds! In the reserve probably 70 Goldfinch and the first Greenfinch of the autumn. Still a couple of noisy Water Rails (saw 3 the other day), and plenty of Tits.

Usual flocks of Oystercatchers, Curlew and about 200 Golden Plover on the edge of the marsh. One late summer visitor, a Wheatear was present near Grey Sand Mere.

Yesterday there was a Peregrine hunting over the Skern but disturbed by a loose dog chasing waders over the mud.
