Braunton
Just heading out for an evening walk when several of the local Gulls (as usual) were squeaking about something – often one of the local Buzzards going over the valley – But this time it was an Osprey which circled a couple of times and headed on Northwards. 2nd one I’ve seen this week. Round the Marsh still plenty of Sand Martins, 1 Swallow and 2 Common Sandpipers on the Caen. Reed-beds full of Reed and Sedge Warbler song. None showed.
Slapton assortment
Doing a recce for our field course next week in and around Slapton. On the beach there were 3 Wheatears, a Whimbrel and a Greenshank. Around the ley there were many 10s of Chiffchaff and in Slapton Wood, the Blue Tits got all scared by what initially appeared to be a Sparrowhawk as it flew through the trees but ended up being a male Cuckoo. I spoke to a couple who had also had a Red Kite a few minutes before I spoke to them.
