This afternoon along Fremington Pill where there were three Greenshanks, a few Teal, Black tailed Godwit and Redshank, a Little Egret, a single Spotted Redshank and one Glossy Ibis.

Otter Estuary LORP – Garganey
Missed out on the reported Glaucous Gull in the Ottery Estuary LORP area this afternoon but managed to find the drake Garganey together with a Greenshank and 2 Green Sandpipers so was pleased with my visit.
Thornhillhead N.Devon
Bit of a surprise this morning, Raven under the bird feeders. Looked massive compared with the male pheasant (this years trying to be dominant resident – ‘No Tail’), which was picking around and ran off. We have a local pair of Ravens that have been defending territory, calling from the phone mast across the road. Lots of flight displays and a punch-up which resulted in two crashing into our trees. Interestingly, something I have not seen before, one was pursued by the 2 resident magpies down over the fields behind the house. We know the magpies have been renovating even though we can’t see the nest high in our trees as there are blackthorn twigs (that they collect from hedge cutting) around the place.

Bowling Green Marsh
Spotted Redshank, 2 Spoonbills and 5+ Bar-tailed Godwits with the usuals at high tide.
Lower Otter Restoration Project (LORP), Budleigh Salterton
A 2nd Cal year Glaucous Gull this morning. Initially found on flooded area north of South Farm Road and then later loafing with gulls south of SF Road, just north of the Lime Kiln Car Park. The drake Garganey also still present.
Paignton

Very good views this morning of a low-flying Red Kite over Sands Road, Paignton. The bird was being mobbed by gulls as it headed S/SW towards the railway line and and the Young’s Park area.
Wrafton
Garganey again, for its 5th day this time preening on the smaller scrape. Over on the larger scrape approx 91 Black-tailed Godwits. Also of note a calling Greenshank in the area, and a roost of large Gulls in the field (mostly Herring) had 1 GBB and 8 LBB Gulls. 1 Gadwall in the reserve.

Highlights were Pochard (1m, 3f); Snipe (12); Spoonbill (2); Ruff (1); Spotted Redshank (1); Bar-tailed Godwit (1) amongst Pintail, Shoveler, Wigeon, Shelduck, Tufted, Mallard, Avocet, Greenshank, Black-tailed Godwit, Dunlin, Curlew, Redshank.

Drake Garganey still present on the main scrape at 1p.m. 73 Black-tailed Godwits.

On a rather dull, drizzly morning: Firecrest, Mediterranean Gull (2nd cy), 2 Goosanders (1 drake), 40 Wigeon, Red-crested Pochard (female), 16 Mandarin Ducks, 3 Snipe, 20+ Turnstones, c395 Dunlins & 5+ Greenshanks,

@1145 am. by the little unnamed stream that runs alongside the Abbotsham Road (at the junction with Harlseywood) and the grounds of Kinsgley School. Seen from the roadside railing.

Other notable species here included 5+ Water Pipits, 1 Greenshank, 2 Green Sandpipers, 19 Black-tailed Godwits and drake Gadwall.

Six sightings of Firecrest (Regulus ingnicapillus) in our garden on the following dates:
11, 12, 13, 19, 20 February, 5 March.
Wrafton
Drake Garganey again this morning on the larger scrape. 60 Black-tailed Godwits. 2 Sand Martins over Wrafton Pond. 3 Mallard, 6 Gadwall and 2Canada Geese on the reserve pond. Unusually 5 Curlew flew over heading South, and a Greenshank called as it headed South East. Two female Marsh Harriers interacting over Sherpa Marsh.

Morning search of Stoke Gabriel in the rain turned up..Common Sandpiper, Kingfisher,Redshank and song Thrush together with the usual suspects

Ashburton
Working near Ashburton where there were two Great Spotted Woodpeckers, two Ravens, a Buzzard, a pair of Blackbirds, a pair of Long tailed tits, a field covered in gulls and this Dunnock.
River Dart
From Dartmeet to Newbridge (DN) today & from there to Holne Bridge (NH), following on down to Buckfastleigh (HB) yesterday.
2 or 3 pairs of Grey Wagtail on each, with 2 males having a disagreement (DN)
Odd pairs of Dipper plus a few singles on each (3 NH the most)
Pair Goosander (DN), 1m & 2f (HB)
Pair Mandarin (DN), 5m & 4f (NH), pair + 1m (HB)
Often see Kingfisher above Buckfastleigh, but not this time
On way down M5 yesterday I saw what looked like a cattle egret in field / flight just to north of Cullompton, but obviously couldn’t stop to check
