Bradwell Wood

A flock of at least 30 Mistle Thrush were disturbed on my walk this morning. Their loud rattling calls, and flying across to the top of another tree were the dead giveaway of identifying them.

Also of note, we have so far recorded 23 species of butterfly this year – including Silver-washed Fritillary, Dark Green Fritillary and Purple Hairstreak – the rewards for not using any pesticides, insecticides etc

Skern high tide roost on Taw/Torridge Estuary

An unusually high count of 17 Sandwich Tern and 2 Common Tern at the high tide roost this afternoon. A Peregrine sat out on the marsh for a while before hunting over the Burrows where it appeared to catch a Starling. A Sparrowhawk flew low along the line of stones and then uncharacteristically landed on the mud before flying on to land in some shallow water at the tides edge.
