Clennon Lakes, Paignton

A couple of photos to add to Kevin’s earlier post about the Hume’s Leaf Warbler from today, Wednesday. Also heard it make it’s quite distinctive ‘Chew-It’ call on a few occasions. The bird is constantly on the move and occasionally seems to congregate with Long Tailed Tits and Goldcrests.

Plym Estuary & Saltram

Highlight today was 4 Great Northern Divers (probably a site record). Also, 2 Jack Snipe, 20+ Snipe, c475 Dunlins, Common Sandpiper, 6 Greenshanks, c25 Turnstones, Black-tailed Godwit, Great Crested & 2+ Little Grebes, 2 redhead Goosanders, drake Red-breasted Merganser, 59 Wigeon, Kingfisher, 2 Green Woodpeckers, Sparrowhawk, 50+ Redwings (mainly going north), 3 Stonechats, c10 Siskins & 5 Roe Deer.

Another 95+ Redwings (mainly going north) over Tothill Park and an additional Great Northern Diver in the Cattewater.

A westerly movement of 155 Redwings this morning, in a twenty minute period. The flock sizes were between 20 and 50 birds.

In poor light I was able to get a few shots of the Lesser Scaup that is still around. Saw lots of; Brent Geese, Oystercatchers, Dunlin and Wigeon. A single Redshank feeding on the grass beside the road and two Pied Wagtails on the same patch of grass/

Tarka Trail, Bideford to Fremington…..

Eider , 4 diving off Instow inc an ad. Male. Marsh Harrier , f .Salt-pill pond .2 Glossy Ibis just west of Saltpill. Single Cattle egret with sheep at Yelland. Several Redwing and Fieldfare and a Chiffchaff between Yelland and Fremington plus 3 Bullfinch, 4 Buzzards together soaring over Instow in the sunny conditions..

North side of Taw Estuary

North side of Taw Estuary

Single Spoonbill foraging & then resting/sleeping on the north side of the Taw Estuary. Also 6 Goosanders (1m +5f ) at Ashford Strand & 14 Black-tailed Godwits on Bradiford Reserve.
