Bird Sightings

Eight collared doves have been gathering around the feeders in the garden for the past week.

I haven’t seen this many in the four years we have lived here

Water Rail this evening; also, Green Woodpecker, Chiffchaff, 6 Goosanders (2 drakes) & my first Mute Swans (2) of the year here.

• 1 Kestrel, 5 Stonechats, 2 Song Thrush,and several Longtailed Tits.

Two Dippers in the River Caen near Caen St School. One (the male) displaying to the other.  This is not far from the centre of the village.

Great to see the Male Black Redstart still around and looking stunning in the sunshine. Also a Female Black Redstart ….a first for me. Both seen today.

Female Black Redstart in the same location as last Monday at Seymour Road allotments, Mutley, Plymouth. This time feeding close by amongst a pile of rocks and stones I’ve created on my plot. Time at 4pm on the 16th January.

Ten+ adult Mediterranean Gulls in the roost off Ethelwynne Brown close with several Common Gulls And a hundred + Black Headed….

Just a quick look off shore produced a Black Throated Diver.

Purple Sandpiper on rocks at Dawlish Warren this afternoon on rocks between Boathouse Cafe and Railway overbridge.

A Great Northern Diver was present at high tide around midday. Also noted were two Common Gulls and a Greenshank.

Around high tide today: 52 Wigeon, 2 Red-breasted Mergansers (drakes), 5 Goosanders (2 drakes), Little Grebe, Common Sandpiper, Red-crested Pochard (female), 8 Greenshanks, 3 Snipe, Peregrine, 2 Firecrests, Chiffchaff, 2 Siskins & a Grey Wagtail.

Also, yesterday, 2 Blackcaps, Grey Plover, 39+ Snipe & 2 adult Mediterranean Gulls; and on Friday (13th), 18 Siskins.

• 3 Chiffchaff, 1 Shag,6 Dippers, 3 Grey Wagtail, large numbers of Oystercatchers and Gulls at the river mouth.

Among the garden birds today ….6 Blackcaps, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, Firecrest and Heron

27 Goosander 10m 17f, 1 Grey Heron, 6 Coot, 12 Mallard, 1 Great Crested Grebe

Opposite the car park to the Arboretum, 5+ Crossbill calling after flying from the tree’s, Buzzard, Heron, Raven and Long Tail Tits,  all in sunshine, lovely. 

A first for Torbay for me today a Dipper in Torbay a great find by Steph Murphy. It was along the stream at Cockington from late morning to at least early afternoon.
