Exminster Marsh

A cycle down to Exminster Marsh this morning, staying along canal bank down to Turf and Station Road down to middle car park. Lots of bird song.

Highlights were 5 Hobby towards M5. Also 4 male Gadwall, Greenshank and 5 Blackwit on the marsh.

Warblers from Countess Weir downwards included 7+ Reed, 5 Cetti’s, 4 Sedge, 9 Chiffchaff, 4 Blackcap and a Whitethroat. Also the usual Willow Warbler just south of Double Locks.

Little Grebe and 2 Tufted on the lagoon. Pair of Swallows at Turf, and three at swing gate at Countess Weir. Otherwise 4 Swift over the marsh.

As expected 4+ Reed Bunting and 4+ Skylark, some singing.

Little else to report bird wise. However first Hairy Dragonfly and Large Red Damselfly on the wing, seeing two of each. And either a Common Blue or Azure Damselfly, probably the latter but never landed long enough.
