3 red kites, Sharpitor

22 May 2022 at approx 1000 am

2 red kites soaring over Sharpitor

1 red kite flying low over the moor on the other side of the road from Sharpitor.  It landed on a rock, stayed a while, before heading off and flying low over the moor towards Sandford Spiney.

Four red Kites below Roos Tor

we were lucky to watch four red kites today just below Roos Tor on Dartmoor for about 30mins – they were soaring in the sky for most of the time. We could not see if they had been feeding on anything.

River Mole Valley

Juvenile Yellowhammers, Greenfinch and Long-tailed Tits looking fabulous with their brown faces in the orchard.By the river Dippers and Grey Wagtails gathering invertebrates and at least 8 active Sand Martin nests, Hundreds of Beautiful Demoiselles ,13 Red Deer hinds,3 stags in velvet and a Roe Deer with fawn.

13.30, looked up in our garden and saw a distinctive shape of Red Kites.

Two Kites, fairly high heading north, one being harried by a crow.

Huge raptor over Alston, near Axminster 1.15 Sunday

Massive raptor, much bigger than a buzzard, no fork in tail so not red kite.  My initial thought was sea eagle !  They have been seen on coast 7 miles away.  Drifted away north east.

Red Kites over Uplyme, East Devon

 

Hello,

At 13:00 BST today 20 May over the Devon/Dorest border just north of Lyme Regis.

About 12 Red Kites circling and gaining great height above Harcombe Valley, Uplyme then gliding off singularly in a westerly direction into East Devon.

North Devon area

Today while working around Hartland and Bideford area I saw a lovely collection of birds. Starting at Bursdon Moor where there were a lot of Linnets, a pair of Stonechats, a Skylark and a few Meadow pipits. In the nearby Welsford Moor area there were two Blackcaps, a Siskin, a Goldcrest, a Chiffchaff, a Robin, a Marsh tit and a Buzzard. In Buckland Brewer I caught sight of a Greenfinch, a Nuthatch, two Coal tits and a Great spotted Woodpecker.
