Train trip to Dawlish

Main interest at Dawlish Warren was 19+ Sandwich Tern off shore. 55+ Brent Geese flew over but as looking towards the sun, no chance to see if Dark or Pale-bellied. Nothing of real note land side though only looked briefly as purpose of trip was the beach.

On the way, and still there on way back were 20+ Egret. At least 10 were Cattle Egret, maybe they all were but train unfavourably too fast. Just south from Powderham Marsh RSPB, though probably hard to see from the road.

Slapton

Lots of firsts for the year for me today. Sand and House Martins coming through in small groups all day and one Swallow. Reed Warbler and Willow Warbler singing and a single Sandwich Tern. Steady stream of Gannets off shore all going south. Great White Egret at the back of  Ireland Bay in the morning and a bonus daytime Tawny Owl I disturbed by mistake.

Wrafton

Still 3 juv Little Grebes on Wrafton Pond. Several Willow Warblers and Chiffchaffs in song around the pond and reserve. Also walked down the East bank of the Caen hoping for a migrant. Best was the now fairly long-staying Great White Egret on the new scrape south of Sherpa Marsh. 2 Curlews south of the old runway lighting gantry. On the way back a male Whitethroat made a half-hearted display flight near the Chivenor fence line.
